In this section, I will be describing how taking certain TRU courses helped me understand global competency better in the context of what I'm stdying, that is international business.

IBUS 3510: International Business

The course laid out the basics of international business. It broght some core issues to light such as differing business practices. The project for this class was to investigate a business opportunity in a foreign country. It laid ground for becoming globally competent. Investigating a business opportunity in a foreign country made for a good lesson since it brought to light thepractical difficulties of conducting business internationally.

IBUS 4540: Global Entrepreneurship

A rewarding course, it taught me the basics of starting a business internationally and brought to light how business practices differ from country to country and how important it is to be aware, not just in a business sense but also socially and culturally. It also taught dealing with uncertainty and ambiguity in business.

MKTG 4470: International Marketing

In this course, we were taught how marketing strategy differs as a business expands into various countries. It is important to keep in mind culture, local laws of the country of operation and political considerations when attemptint to successfully market a product. Perceptions differ and marketers must adjust their marketing strategies accordingly. The group project we did for the class was an oppotunity to understand how important it is to be globally competent in a business context.
